Before starting a talk in front of an audience, make sure that everybody can hear you!
Just as you are getting into your talk, somebody from the back of the audience …
“Speak up please! We can’t hear you!”
Really annoying, isn’t it? You have prepared everything fine, you are focused, relaxed, and suddenly things have started to go wrong.
What’s more, when you continue, your voice starts trembling, you sound nervous and unsure of what you are saying and your vision blurs …
To avoid this, make sure that everybody can hear you. Just ask: can you all hear me over there?
Eh?
How can I make sure I’m speaking loud enough? Try practising with someone else. Louder!
Check whether they can hear close up. Can you hear me if I talk so loud?
What?
But also from further away. Can you hear me if I speak like this or are you a bit hard of hearing?
And if you really want to show off and speak from even further away, you’ll have to modulate your voice until they can hear you clearly
You, over there did you catch all that or do I have to repeat it all over again?
Ahh, sorry …
